BNDES and MCTI will contribute R$640 million to Embrapii to support innovation research

The National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) will contribute R$640 million to the Brazilian Industrial Research and Innovation Company (Embrapii), to support structuring research, development and innovation projects, according to a model that involves cooperation between companies and ICTs accredited as Embrapii units, the institution said.

Of the total amount, R$440 million will come from the ministry, with resources from the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT), and R$200 million from BNDES.

“These resources we announced will allow Embrapii to expand the number of innovation projects in Brazilian companies, strengthening production chains and contributing to Brazilian industrialization, on a sustainable, technological and inclusive basis. In addition, new Embrapii Competence Centers will be accredited, to encourage the development of frontier technologies in areas such as green hydrogen, artificial intelligence and critical and strategic minerals”, highlighted the MCTI minister, Luciana Santos.

For the president of BNDES, Aloizio Mercadante, investments in research, development and innovation boost Brazil’s ability to compete, produce and lead in strategic sectors.

“With this joint contribution, we are strengthening the connection between companies and science and technology institutions to transform knowledge into solutions, increase industry productivity and generate quality jobs. Development involves innovation and our role is to expand the instruments and resources that allow it to happen on a scale”, stated Mercadante.
