A package bomb explodes in Monaco, leaving three seriously injured, including one of Ukraine's richest men

one of the most exclusive and safest enclaves in Europewas shaken this Sunday by a violent explosion that left three seriously injured, including the businessman and Ukrainian oligarch Vadim Ermolaev, considered one of the greatest fortunes in his country.

The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. at the entrance to the Sun’s Palace building.located next to the Plaza de los Molinos, one of the best-known areas of the small Mediterranean principality.

According to initial investigations, a man left a package at the entrance to the property and quickly left the place before the explosion occurred.

A millionaire businessman among the injured

Monegasque authorities initially confirmed that among the injured were two adults, a man and a woman between 50 and 60 years old, as well as a teenager.

Afterwards, Local and French media identified one of the victims as Vadim ErmolaevUkrainian businessman and investor who is among the wealthiest people in Ukraine.

The two adults were transferred to a hospital in the French city of Nice due to the severity of their injuries, while the minor was admitted to the Hospital Lenval. In addition to the three seriously injured, four other people needed medical attention after the detonation.

Maximum alert in the principality

The explosion prompted a significant deployment of police and emergency services in a city accustomed to extremely low crime rates. The Minister of State of Monaco, Christophe Mirmand, He assured that extraordinary measures have been activated to reinforce security.

“All protection measures have been applied to reinforce the alert level of the Principality’s services”he said in statements reported by French media.

At the moment, the authorities have not reported any arrests nor have they specified what the motive for the attack could be.

An open investigation

Investigators are now working to determine who planted the explosive device and whether the target was a specific person associated with the building.

The presence among the victims of a prominent Ukrainian businessman has increased interest in the case, although authorities have not yet established any relationship between the identity of the injured and the explosion.
