United States envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will be in Doha to meet with Qatari mediators, but there will be no high-level meeting between Washington and Tehran, Reuters news agency reported on Tuesday (30), citing Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari.
The two American representatives arrived in Doha, Reuters continued, citing al-Ansari.
The Qatari official added that the vessels had not been transferred to Tehran and that Doha was coordinating with Oman for the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
He also said the hotline in the waterway meant to prevent conflict has been used in recent days to contain hostilities, according to Reuters.
Understand the scenario
In Iran
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that under Clause 13 of the memorandum between the United States and Iran, negotiations for a definitive agreement can only begin after implementation of Clauses 1, 4, 5, 10 and 11 begins.
According to him, the US issued licenses linked to Clause 10 — which deals with the sale of oil — and Iran is monitoring the implementation of these measures.
The spokesperson also informed that work is being done on the implementation of Clause 11, relating to frozen assets.
In this context, a delegation of experts will travel to Doha later this week, he said, adding that any visit by American officials to Qatar is unrelated to the Iranian delegation’s trip.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Iran will honor its commitments if the US does the same, while warning that Tehran will respond firmly to threats.
He also said that half of the $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets held in Qatar will be returned to Tehran — an issue on which the US has issued contradictory statements.
US United States
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News that there will be high-level talks accompanied by parallel technical discussions.
“Special Envoy (Steve) Witkoff and Jared Kushner (Trump’s son-in-law) will travel to Doha for high-level meetings this week,” she said.
In Israel
Defense Minister Israel Katz said Trump insisted on linking the wars in Lebanon and with Iran during ceasefire negotiations, despite his country’s desire to treat them as separate conflicts.
He said Israel has received US support to remain in Lebanon until Hezbollah is disarmed throughout the country.
In the Strait of Hormuz
Mine clearance will be carried out exclusively by Iran, the country’s deputy foreign minister said, refuting statements by President Emmanuel Macron that suggested collaboration between France, Oman and others.
More than two dozen commercial ships transited this strategic point in a 24-hour period, according to data from MarineTraffic — a fraction of the levels recorded before the conflict.
Not Lebanon
Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri — considered a key ally of Hezbollah — harshly criticized the US-brokered agreement between Israel and his country, saying it “will not be implemented.”
The conflict between the radical group (supported by Iran) and Israeli forces in southern Lebanon continued over the weekend, days after the countries signed a new truce.
