A man died after falling from a rock while hiking in Maricá, in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro, on the morning of Sunday, 28.
Caio Rocha Aguiar Azevedo, aged 44, known as Rocha, died after fall from a height of approximately 150 meters. He was participating in a trail and allegedly slipped while climbing Pedra do Monkey to take a photo.
A woman who was also on the trail recorded a video showing the moment of the fall. In the images, she asks Rocha to be careful, but he slips soon after.
The Fire Department was called, but teams had difficulty reaching the victim.due to the steep terrain and dense vegetation. Rocha was located in the middle of the afternoon, but he was already dead.
The Civil Police of the State of Rio de Janeiro reported that the case is being investigated by the 82nd Police Station, in Maricá. “Investigations are underway to investigate the facts,” he stated.
On social media, Rocha’s brother, Tairo Arrabal, lamented what happened and stated that he died doing what he loved.
“My brother, Caio, passed away today as a result of an accident while doing what he loved: hiking in his beloved Lagos Region,” wrote Arrabal in a post on social media.
On his Instagram profile, Rocha shared videos on trails and adventure trips.
Pedra do Macaco is one of the main tourist attractions in Maricá and offers panoramic views of the city, the lagoons and the coast.
