“The denuclearization of Iran is progressing well,” Trump told reporters. “There were very positive meetings, and we’ll see.”
WASHINGTON, July 1 (Reuters) – President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the United States is getting along very well with Iran and that recent meetings in Qatar went well.
“The denuclearization of Iran is progressing well,” Trump told reporters. “There were very positive meetings, and we’ll see.”
The US and Iran held technical talks in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Wednesday, seeking an agreement on the flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz and ensuring a lasting ceasefire, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations and an Iranian official.
Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and envoy Steve Witkoff met with the Qatari prime minister — mediating the talks alongside Pakistan — to prepare the ground for negotiations, but would not participate in the discussions themselves, said the source with direct knowledge of the matter.
“We’re getting along very well,” Trump said, adding that Iran “has come a long way.”
