The year 2024 ends with a ray of hope for Ukraine: As part of an extensive prisoner exchange on the border between Ukraine and Belarus in the Chernihiv region northeast of Kiev, 189 Ukrainians were released from Russian captivity the day before the turn of the year. In return, Ukraine handed over 150 captured Russian soldiers to Russia. According to the Coordination Staff, the responsible body on the Ukrainian side, the exchange was one of the largest in Russia’s open war against Ukraine.
