He celebrated, this Wednesday (1/1), the mass marking the World Day of Peace in celebration of the Solemnity of Mary Most Holy Mother of God. During the mass, he condemned abortion, wars and called for debt reduction in poor countries.
“We are called to value life, to care for wounded life. We entrust the entire world to her (Saint Mary) so that hope can be reborn, so that peace can finally sprout for all the peoples of the earth”, said the Pope in Saint Peter’s Basilica.
He reinforced with the faithful that they must oppose abortion and have a “firm commitment” to protecting and respecting life from conception to natural death.

When referring to wars, the pope expressed gratitude to those in areas of conflict, working for dialogue and negotiations.
“We pray for an end to the fighting on all fronts and for a decisive step towards peace and reconciliation,” Francis said.
He also recalled that 2025 is the year of Jubilee, which takes place every 25 years, whose objective is to renew the hope of the faithful. In his speech, the pontiff said that the central message of the Jubilee is about the need to forgive debts. In view of this, he asked world leaders from rich countries to eliminate or reduce the debts of poorer countries.
