“Picanhometer” with data until September shows that Brazilians can buy almost 20 kg of the cut in 2024
The average retail price per kilo of picanha was R$71.53 in September 2024, 7.9% higher than the R$66.31 in the same month of 2023. The data are from the (Institute of Agricultural Economics) , from the (São Paulo Department of Agriculture and Supply).
From 2023 to 2024, an increase of 7%. As a result, the current minimum wage can buy 19.9 kg of beef cuts, 800 g more than last year.

According to the IEA historical series, the year in which Brazilians were most able to buy picanha with the minimum wage was 2019 – the 1st year of the (PL) government.
With the remuneration of R$998 and the average kg of product at R$43.50, it was possible to buy 23 kg.
However, the worst result was also in one of the years of Bolsonaro’s government. In 2021, with the minimum wage it was possible to buy 16.5 kg.
The 2nd best result was in 2007, when the president (PT) assumed his 2nd presidential term. That year, Brazilians were able to buy, on average, 22.6 kg of picanha with the minimum wage.

Currently, the average value of the Bolsa Família monthly benefit is R$683. With this amount, it is possible to buy up to 9.6 kg of picanha – 3% less than at the end of 2023, the highest level in the historical series.
In the relationship between the value of Bolsa Família and the price of picanha, the best relationship in the series was in 2023 – the 1st year of Lula’s current term. It was possible to buy 9.9 kg of the cut, on average, last year.
The aid data is from the federal government. The value presented in 2021 and 2022 considers data from Auxílio Brasil, created by Bolsonaro in the final stretch of his administration.

The PT member had stated that Brazilians lost purchasing power in the previous government, but that if they were elected.
Bolsonaro countered. in 2022 than with the value of the then Auxílio Brasil “if you bought 3 times more rump steak” compared to the former president’s government.
