The toilet is the foundation. When it doesn’t work, the whole family feels it. What most often causes a clogged toilet and how can you deal with it?
When the toilet gets clogged, it’s not just that. According to the plumbers, the reason is often mishandling, and this usually consists in the fact that things from the kitchen are poured into the bowl, which clog the pipes.
“The biggest risk is food scraps and edible oils!” says the plumber, noting that all these delicacies stick to the walls of the pipe and slowly but surely clog it.
The result is a visit to a plumber, which will certainly become more expensive. “Therefore, pour all fats into a glass bottle (you can use a larger mason jar) and then take it to the fat container. “Wipe off the rest of the grease on the dishes with a paper towel and throw it in the trash,” advises the expert.

Pay attention to your hair too
Other garbage related to hygiene does not belong in the toilet either. “Be sure to avoid throwing hair, beards, lint and other similar material into the bowl. It acts similarly to grease – it settles on the pipe and constantly destroys it,” says the plumber.
Other things are also problematic, such as make-up remover pads, ear sticks or baby wipes. Other things made of non-degradable materials such as cigarettes, wood, wet wipes, diapers, condoms or animal feces do not belong in the toilet. Put all waste in the trash!
Bell pumping
Sometimes it happens that even if you treat your toilet with respect, it gets clogged. In this case, you can use the bell as a first aid. How to do it: Put the bell on the waste and pump with all the force. The negative pressure created in the drain washes away all impurities. Caution: Do not flush all this dirt again! On the contrary – put on your gloves and put all the mess in a bag and throw it in the bin.
Chemicals for larger impurities
If your toilet is heavily clogged, you will need a slightly heavier gauge. This is undoubtedly chemistry – that is, products that break down dirt and grease. One of these is the cleaning product Krtek. How to use it: Pour ½ liter of reasonably hot water into the toilet.
Attention, it should not be completely boiling, as this would damage the ceramics of the toilet. Then pour 2-3 lids of Krtek cleaning agent into the drain and let it work. The preparation contains sodium hydroxide, which dissolves hair, cotton wool, paper, but also partially kitchen waste. After ten minutes, rinse it with water and you should be done with the problem!
Nicely ecological
If you need to clean the toilet and you don’t want to “pour chemicals into it”, you can do it with ecological cleaning sticks. They work on the principle of releasing natural bacteria and enzymes. Their effectiveness is the same as that of regular chemical cleaners, but unlike them, they smell pleasant. Another advantage of this ecological variant is that it is made of 99.5% natural ingredients and is also biodegradable… It is easy to use – you put the product in the drain and let it dissolve slowly.
Soda and sewer pen
If you do not have any means at home, you can pour 500 g of baking soda into the waste and cover it with 1 liter of table vinegar. Leave the mixture on overnight and then rinse. It should clear the toilet. Another solution is the so-called sewer pen, which you can buy at a hardware store.
How to use it: Simply slide the pen into the waste and follow it down the pipe. Over time, dirt should float out, which you should catch and throw away immediately. If that doesn’t help, you’re left with nothing but a plumber. You will pay a lot of money, but a functional toilet is worth it!
