Ukraine imposes emergency blackouts and is on high alert

Country cites threat of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure; Kiev regions are left in the dark

Ukraine introduced emergency blackouts across the country this Monday (11.Nov.2024) due to the threat of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. According to the agency, the capital Kiev was one of the places with regions without energy.

All of Ukraine has been placed on high alert. The Air Force said a large number of projectiles were being launched from Russian territory. In , the agency claimed to have intercepted dozens of missiles and rockets, but did not say whether they were aimed at Ukrainian electrical installations.

According to ReutersRussia may have simulated a larger attack, which would have caused Ukraine to prepare for a large-scale bombing.

Several regions of Kiev were without power on Monday morning (Nov 11). Images posted on social media showed people gathering in metro stations that have served as bomb shelters since the start of the war in February 2022.

On Sunday (10.nov), the Russian Ministry of Defense shot down 34 Ukrainian drones aimed at Moscow. According to the mayor of the Russian capital, Sergei Sobyanin, the offensive forced the temporary closure of 3 airports: Domodedovo, Zhukovo and Sheremetyevo.

In Ramenskoye, two houses were set on fire after being hit by debris and a 52-year-old woman was injured. The ministry said that another 36 drones were shot down in 6 regions of the country.
