“We pray for the tormented Ukraine, the Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan and Kivu [na República Democrática do Congo] “, said the pontiff
São Paulo, SP (UOL/Folhapress) – Pope Francis’ health is stable and he had another quiet night at Gemelli Hospital in Rome, the Vatican said on Sunday (2).
On the same date, the Pontiff issued a message thanking the support of the Catholic faithful and citing wars such as Ukraine and the Gaza Strip – this is the third consecutive weekend in which he is prevented from promoting his traditional Sunday morning Mass in São Pedro Basilica.
“I would like to thank the prayers,” said the religious, 88, in the note issued by the Holy See. “I feel all its affection and proximity. I feel like being carried and supported by all God’s people. ”
“I also pray for you. I pray mainly for peace. From here, the war seems even more absurd. We prayed for the tormented Ukraine, the Palestine, Israel, Lebanon, Myanmar, Sudan and Kivu [na República Democrática do Congo ].”
A complete medical update about your condition is scheduled for later.
Also on Sunday, Francisco received in the hospital the Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of the Vatican, and his deputy, said the spokesman of Santa Sé, Matteo Bruni, without providing further details about the meeting.
An employee of the Holy See who has not identified himself for not being allowed to discuss the health of the Pope stated that Francisco is feeding normally, moving in his hospital room and following the treatment.
The previous bulletin, released on Saturday (1st), stated that the health of the Pontiff was stable. Francisco had no fever or new respiratory crises.
According to the medical team of Gemelli Hospital, the Pope alternated on Saturday between noninvasive mechanical ventilation and high flow oxygenation, and received oxygen concentrated by roads, without the need for intubation.
The newsletter also said that the Pope was awake and warned, and continued to feed and do physiotherapy normally. In the late afternoon of local time, he received the Eucharist and prayed.
The pontiff was hospitalized on February 14 to treat what seemed to be a bronchitis. In previous days, he had difficulty leading celebrations, and even asked for help in reading speeches on two occasions.
Shortly thereafter, he received a diagnosis of bilateral pneumonia, a severe infection that can ignite and cause scars in both lungs, making breathing difficult. The Vatican describes the infectious picture as complex, caused by two or more microorganisms.
This is the most complex clinical condition that Francisco faces in his papacy. The current hospitalization is the longest since he became Pope in 2013, surpassing the ten -day period in 2021, when he underwent elective gut surgery.
The case presented a continuous improvement throughout this week, but worked again on Friday (28). In the afternoon, Francisco had a respiratory crisis that made him vomit. He ended up aspiring his own vomiting and made use of mechanical ventilation for the first time.
The crisis led to a “sudden aggravation of the respiratory condition,” but the Pope “remained alert and well oriented.” Doctors maintained the “reserved prognosis”, which means that their health condition continues with uncertain evolution and that the team treats the condition with caution.
On Saturday night, faithful meet again in São Pedro Square to pray for Francisco’s health. The Rosary was led by Cardinal Claudio Gugerotti, mayor of the dicker’s Eastern Churches.
