Itamaraty reported on Thursday night (25) the death of two Brazilians in Venezuela as a result of the earthquakes that hit the country on Wednesday (24). According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE), a woman and a man were the Brazilian victims. “In compliance with the right to privacy, the MRE will not disclose personal information of the deceased”, he informed
The MRE reported that it is providing assistance to the families of the victims. “The MRE informs, with great regret, the death of a Brazilian citizen as a result of the earthquakes that hit Venezuela. The MRE informs that it is providing consular assistance to the families of the victims”he wrote.
Earlier, Itamaraty had reported that there were no Brazilian victims among those killed and injured in the earthquake that hit Venezuela.
In a statement, the government said it provided assistance to Brazilians who suffered material damage as a result of the tragedy. “Itamaraty’s consular duty remains available to provide assistance to Brazilian citizens in emergency situations,” he said.
The 7.5 magnitude earthquake that hit Venezuela was the strongest recorded in the country in more than a centuryaccording to historical data from the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
According to the agency, the last earthquake of greater intensity occurred on October 29, 1900, when an earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 7.7 hit the region north of Caracas and caused significant damage.
