Kremlin on Monday denied reports that US President-elect Donald Trump had a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin last week. It was reported by the Reuters and AFP agencies, writes TASR.
The American newspaper Washington Post on Sunday, citing unnamed sources wrote that Trump spoke by phone with Putin last Thursday, urging him not to escalate the war in Ukraine.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday that this was “completely false information” and that no such call had taken place. According to him, Putin currently has no concrete plans to talk to Trump. Republican Trump claimed during the election campaign that he could end the war in Ukraine in “the course of one day”, possibly even before taking office as president. So far, he has not explained how he would achieve this.
The Kremlin reported on Friday that Putin is ready to discuss Ukraine with Trump, but that doesn’t mean he’s willing to change Russia’s demands to end the war, Reuters reminded.
