On the evening of Sunday, June 21, our capital was hit by a very unforgiving situation. The storms brought a so-called downburst, the website reports. It is a meteorological phenomenon in which there is an intense and violent fall of cold air from a storm cloud towards the ground.
When this air hits the Earth’s surface, it will spread in all directions and create an extremely strong, destructive wind. It often resembles a tornado in its strength and consequences, but it has a completely different structure.
Gruesome footage of the devastation left by the downburst has surfaced on social media. “The expected apocalypse swept through Bratislava in the early evening, leaving behind damage. The sirens of firemen are echoing through the city as they remove the effects of the elements. The wind with a force of almost 76 km/h caused damage and the roads remained flooded,” iMeteo.sk said on social networks and published a series of photos that you can find at the end of the article.
The wind reached a brutal force. “The wind at Koliba reached a speed of 19.9 m/s, then the wind increased to 21.3 m/s. Several damages were subsequently reported in the city, mainly in the form of broken trees and power outages,” the meteorologists explained.
Due to unfavorable weather, the Dni Petržalka festival was suddenly cancelled. Sima Magušinová, Desmod and No Name were supposed to perform on Sunday. The group No Name shared with their fans a terrifying VIDEO of what it looked like in Bratislava. “Today, for the first time in 30 years, we didn’t play a concert. More in the video. We’re sorry,” they wrote. You can find the images above the article.
