An anonymous complaint led to the process: the prime minister is suspected of receiving tax benefits from this exchange, in a possible deduction of 100 thousand euros in VAT.
He would also have benefited from an exemption from paying the IMI (Municipal Property Tax) for three years, saving almost 7,000 euros.
Furthermore, the valor of this six-story house was never communicated to the Constitutional Court.
At the time, Luís Montenegro assured that he had not received any preferential treatment and said: “I don’t owe anyone anything. I fear nothing. I paid what all citizens paid.”
The Public Ministry opened one at the end of 2023.
Meanwhile, the Judiciary Police sent the case to Porto’s Department of Investigation and Criminal Action. But now the investigation will be completed, as no evidence of crime will have been found.
The decision to archive has not yet been announced by the Public Ministry, but should be announced in the coming weeks, according to the same source.
