The Rio de Janeiro team won the biggest club competition in South America for the first time.
Botafogo, coached by Portuguese Artur Jorge, won the Copa Libertadores for the first time this Saturday, beating Atlético de Mineiro, 3-1, in the final played in Buenos Aires.
Playing inferiorly since the two minutes, after Gregore’s expulsion, Botafogo scored through Luiz Henrique (35), Alex Telles (44), from a penalty, and Júnior Santos (90+8), while Eduardo Vargas ( 47) reduced it to Atlético Mineiro, who had won the most important South American club competition in 2013.
In their first final, Botafogo gave the sixth consecutive title to Brazilian teams, and Artur Jorge became the third Portuguese coach to win the Libertadores, repeating what Jorge Jesus achieved playing for Flamengo, in 2019, and Abel Ferreira for Palmeiras, in 2020 and 2021.
