The cause of death would have been a sudden illness during the night between Friday and Saturday. The passenger’s identity was not disclosed, but he was accompanied by his wife and daughter on the vessel.

The reported that the incident occurred in the region of Ilha do Maia, in Angra dos Reis, in Rio de Janeiro, and that the local Port Authority Police Station went to the cruise ship to obtain information and clarifications for an administrative inquiry into accidents and navigation facts, which will be forwarded to the Maritime Court. NOTE FROM THE NAVY ON PASSENGER WHO DIED ON THE MAIARA AND MARAÍSA CRUISE
The Brazilian Navy (MB), through the Command of the 1st Naval District (Com1ºDN), informs that the Port Authority Police Station in Angra dos Reis (DelAReis) received an Official Communication about the death of a passenger on board the vessel ‘ MSC SEAVIEW’, this Saturday afternoon (30), near Ilha do Maia in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro.
As soon as it became aware of what happened, DelAReis sent a team to the location to obtain information and collect clarifications about the fact, in order to support the administrative inquiry into navigation accidents and facts (IAFN). Once the procedure has been completed and the legal formalities have been completed, the IAFN will be forwarded to the Maritime Court, which will carry out the appropriate distribution and assessment, which will inform the Navy’s Special Prosecutor’s Office to adopt the measures provided for in Article 42 of Law No. 2 180 /54.
