PGR forwards request for termination of the PL to the STF

André Janones asked the Public Ministry to file a lawsuit with the Court; says the analysis will go to Alexandre de Moraes

A (Attorney General’s Office) On November 25th, he sent the federal deputy (Avante-MG) to the (Supreme Federal Court) so that the (Federal Public Ministry) could file a lawsuit asking the Court to extinguish the former president’s (Liberal Party).

The demand was forwarded to the Strategic Group to Combat Anti-Democratic Acts, which, together with the Court, coordinates actions and investigation work related to the topic. The information is contained in an order signed by the PGR chief of staff, Carlos Fernando Mazzoco. Here is it (PDF – 54.2 kB).

According to Janones’ press office, the case goes to minister Alexandre de Moraes, who is a rapporteur for similar cases, such as the acts of January 8th.

UNDERSTAND

The letter mentions events that, according to the congressman from Minas Gerais, harm democracy. He cites the –who ran for councilor in 2020 for the PL– in Brasília, the 8th of January and the alleged involvement of party members, such as the president of the PL, (SP) and the federal deputy (RJ), in a possible attempt to coup d’état.

For Janones, the STF made it clear that the existence of undemocratic practices is intolerable, especially when promoted or encouraged by political parties. Therefore, the MPF must “act rigorously to defend the constitutional order”.
