Rebels mark “beginning of a new era for Syria”
Syrian rebels announced the “escape of the tyrant”, President Bashar al-Assad, after taking Damascus.
“The tyrant Bashar al-Assad has fled (…) we proclaim the city of Damascus free”, announced the coalition of rebel groups in messages shared on the Telegram platform.
“After 50 years of oppression under the power of [partido] Baas, and 13 years of crimes, tyranny and displacement [forçadas] (…) today we announce the end of this dark period and the beginning of a new era for Syria”, he added.
At the same time, the coalition called on Syrians displaced abroad to return to “free Syria”.
For his part, the Syrian Prime Minister said he was ready “to cooperate” with “the new leadership” chosen by the people, specifying that he would be this morning (local time) at the government headquarters for any “transition” procedure of power.
“This country can be a normal country, [pode] build good relations with neighbors and the world (…) but this issue will be up to the leadership that the Syrian people choose. We are ready to cooperate” in every possible way, said Mohamed al-Jalali, in a video published on the social network Facebook.
