Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker and Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar announced a new political era after Thursday’s negotiations in Vienna. According to the liner.hu server, after Warsaw, Vienna also plans to develop a new relationship with Budapest, informs the TASR correspondent in Budapest.

The negotiating parties agreed that the meeting represents an occasion of historic significance and opens the door to a new political and diplomatic era between the neighboring states. In this context, Stocker declared that with the accession of Prime Minister Magyar, Hungary is returning to the European Council as a constructive member. Vienna and Budapest want to develop an even closer partnership, so they will organize a joint meeting of the governments of Austria and Hungary at the end of this year.

According to the Austrian chancellor, both countries are currently facing similar challenges and their interests overlap in several strategic areas. According to him, effective and long-term representation of the interests of the region in Brussels is not possible without strong regional cooperation. The new Hungarian Prime Minister, who visited Poland on Tuesday and Wednesday as part of his first official trip abroad, is also optimistic about the new beginning. Magyar described the current consultations as a key milestone. According to him, a unique opportunity for a restart is currently opening up for both countries, from which both parties can benefit.
