Herring soup is a Christmas tradition for many peoplefor others an interesting culinary experience. If you haven’t had the opportunity to try such a soup yet, perhaps the upcoming holidays are a perfect opportunity to do so. You will need the following ingredients for this:

  • 3 herring fillets
  • 2 onions
  • 500 ml of cream
  • Yogurt
  • 4 potatoes
  • Dill

Ingredients for herring sauce:

  • 750 ml of boiling water
  • 125 ml of vinegar
  • 10 peppercorns
  • 7 grains of allspice
  • 3 bay leaves

Preparation method:

To prepare herring soup, start by boiling water with spices in a pot, adding vinegar at the end. Leave the brine to cool and during this time start cutting the herring into smaller pieces. Then cut the onion into feathers, scald it with boiling water and add it to the herring. Pour the prepared marinade over everything and leave in the refrigerator for about 12 hours.

After this time, remove the herrings and put them in a pot or tureen. Peel the potatoes and cook in salted water. Meanwhile, combine the yogurt with the cream. Add to the herring and mix thoroughly. Before serving place the boiled potatoes on a plate and then pour the herrings in the cream. Decorate everything with dill. A simple and extremely appetizing herring soup for Christmas Eve is ready. Enjoy your meal!
