In an interview with Rádio Renascença, the PCP leader argued that Portugal could not be “hypocritical and cynical” in not stopping the Russian President if he stepped on national territory.
Paulo Raimundo, general secretary of the PCP, considers that the Portuguese Government, as subscriber to themust comply with the arrest warrant issued against the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin.
Paulo Raimundo says he understands that Portugal must comply with the arrest warrant against the Russian leader, so as not to be “hypocritical and cynical like some countries”.
The general secretary of the Communist Party also states that the Russia, China and North Korea have political regimes chosen by the people of these countries, but I would not like any of them to apply in Portugal.
Gouveia e Melo? “I think there will be other alternatives”
The communist leader also guarantees that the PCP “will not fail to intervene in the presidential battle” and, for this, there are “two possibilities, from the outset”:
“An intervention of one’s own or creating the conditions for supporting a candidate.”
Asked whether Admiral Gouveia e Melo, who is believed to havefits the profile of a leader who will not change the Constitution, Paulo Raimundo notes that he has never heard the military speak about the Constitution.
“I think there will be other alternatives to this battle,” he adds.
City halls and abortion
Regarding next year’s municipal elections, the general secretary of the PCP says that the party “will fight” to keep the 19 city halls it holds:
“The CDU, as a great left-wing force in municipal power, will always be available to the left in municipal power.”
When it comes to the abortion law, remember that the Communist Party defends that it should be extended until 12 weeks of pregnancyhowever, he questions “whether we are at the moment to change this”.
