Federal deputy Arlindo Chinaglia (PT-SP) was elected president of Parlasul (Mercosur Parliament) this Monday (9) at the body’s headquarters in Montevideo, . He will assume the presidency from January 1, 2025.
Created in 2005, Parlasul is the political representation body of and brings together parliamentarians from the countries of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
“We will prioritize the bloc’s border integration agenda, the integration of production chains, public security and continue to monitor current trade negotiations,” said the PT member.
“In the case of the agreement with the European Union, we need to closely monitor the internalization of this in the national Parliaments of the Mercosur countries”, continued the deputy, in reference to the agreement with the European bloc.
Chinaglia is in his eighth term as federal deputy. He has already presided over the Chamber of Deputies and Parlasul itself, between 2017 and 2018.
