The German supermarket chain Lidl is using a very particular new system in Finland to prevent theft of alcoholic beverages. This is what the Finnish media reports in information.
According to this information, establishment staff are opening and separating six-packs of alcoholic beverages to make it difficult to steal them in the store itself.
Note that there is no evidence or estimate of the effectiveness of this trick, but it is combined with another action. In group S stores, larger packages of alcohol are opened and unloaded.
Thefts increase in Finland
They also provide data on this problem that they seek to put a stop to, since robberies have increased in the last five years in that country. If around 47,700 were registered in 2019, that figure in 2023 rose to around 59,800.
