PM guarantees that negotiations with sappers are "very advanced" and increases reach four thousand euros

The Prime Minister assured that the Government is “interested in completing a negotiation that is already very advanced”, unintentionally indicating “give many elements that are still on the table”that the Government’s proposals guarantee a social appreciation equivalent to that of the security forces.

The Prime Minister assured this Wednesday that negotiations with the firefighters are “very advanced”, highlighting that a salary increase of up to four thousand euros per year is being proposed, equivalent to that of the security forces.

In response to the PAN deputy the Prime Minister guaranteed that the Government is “interested in completing a negotiation that is already very advanced”, unintentionally indicating “give many elements that are still on the table”that the Government’s proposals guarantee a social appreciation equivalent to that of the security forces.

“The monthly increase in remuneration scheduled for the next three years could reach an annual value at the lowest points of the career of around four thousand euros. In other words, equivalent to four salaries. To which must also be added the appreciation of the Public Administration itself, which in this case will be around 170 euros”, he explained.

Montenegro said that “throughout the context of the manifestation” and demands, it was his obligation to announce the executive’s proposal and also reiterated that the Government is in these negotiations for “good faith” and with “sense of responsibility”with the intention of “resolving the problem of the status of firefighters” although without “accept intimidation”.

Inês Sousa Real, from PAN, had criticized that “from meeting to meeting” firefighter sappers continued to earn “in three supplements the measly sum of 21 euros and ten cents”.

“For volunteer firefighters, the budget does not even include the R$10 million that would ensure an increase in the minimum wage,” he said.

The government’s decision to reduce VAT on bullfighting was also once again criticized by Inês de Sousa Real, who accused the PM of “do the bullfighting lobby a favor” and backtrack on animal protection.

During the debate, deputy Inês de Sousa Real questioned whether the Government consulted the European Union VAT Committee before the PSD and CDS-PP proposed reducing the tax for bullfighting, claiming that the reduction is “likely to violate the directive “.

“Medical-veterinary services, food, the essential basket itself, school meals, everything continues to be taxed as a luxury good, but your Government’s priority was to lower VAT on bullfighting”, stated the PAN leader.

The deputy also criticized the Government’s inaction in relation to the National Anti-Corruption Strategy which, she claimed, ends this year without the announcement of concrete measures. The PAN leader also accused Luís Montenegro of neglecting fundamental commitments to transparency and justice.

“There is not even any news that there is a working group set up in relation to the execution of the Budget for 2024 that provided for the renewal of this strategy or the anti-corruption agenda announced by the Minister of Justice”, declared Inês de Sousa Real.

The deputy’s intervention on these two matters went unanswered by the Prime Minister, who dedicated all the time to reply to Inês de Sousa Real to the Government’s negotiations with the firemen.
