Available on the market since Grêmio’s departure, coach Renato Gaúcho used social media this Thursday (19) to thank Santos and Vasco for their interest in his work. Under the justification that he “needs to rest”, he does not intend to take over any club at the moment.
“We’ve had great conversations in the last few days. Both projects are very good, but my family and I understand that it’s time to rest. The year has been very exhausting and I need to recharge my batteries,” said the former striker.
Without a coach since November 18th, when he fired coach Fábio Carille after winning the Series B title of the Brazilian Championship, the Santos board spoke with the coach from Rio Grande do Sul and presented the proposal. Informally, the Grêmio idol considered the São Paulo offer to be more advantageous, but preferred to maintain the rest period.
In the team’s return to the elite of national football, Marcelo Teixeira saw in Renato a profile that fits the board’s tastes: an experienced professional with important titles on his resume.
While the board is trying to find a new coach, planning around the squad is being done. Striker Willian Bigode and right-back Aderlan had their contracts renewed and published in the Daily Newsletter (BID).
The two athletes had a contract until the end of this year and will continue at Vila Belmiro for another season. For having reached 60% participation in the games, Willian Bigode had automatic renewal. His permanence throughout the season, however, will depend on the approval of the new coach.
Aderlan had his contract renewed due to a legal obligation. The athlete is recovering from a complete rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, is handed over to the club’s medical department and has no plans to return to the field.
