The shooter seriously injured a woman in Ostrava, the police found him dead

A family conflict in Ostrava resulted in a shooting at a housing estate in Zábřeh. The woman ended up with serious injuries in the hospital and her husband was found dead in the apartment.

On Wednesday, the Czech police intervened in the Ostrava district of Zábřeh, where a man seriously wounded a woman with a firearm in one of the apartments in the housing estate. The woman is in the hospital, and the man was found by criminal investigators in the dead man’s apartment. After the intervention, the police said that it was a husband and wife, informs TASR reporter.

The director of the police of the Moravian-Silesian region, Tomáš Kužel, specified that the police received a notification about the conflict between the husband and wife after 9:00 a.m., and that, according to the witness, the injured woman managed to run out of the house. The called units treated her and took her to the hospital.

The police found the man dead

“We learned from the witness from which apartment the woman allegedly ran out, we found out who owned the apartment and who was supposed to be there through lustration. We had no information that the man was the holder of a legal firearm. We tried to negotiate and contact the man, we located his mobile phone and it was confirmed to us that he should be in the incriminated apartment. After the intervention unit entered the apartment, we found the man dead with a gunshot wound head,” Kužel described the hit.

He added that all circumstances will be investigated, including how the man died. He confirmed that he had a violent criminal history. He only had a gas weapon registered, for which a firearms license is not required.

The injured woman is in the hospital

David Holeš, the director of rescuers in the Moravian-Silesian Region, added that five emergency groups intervened on the spot. According to him, the wounded woman was shot in the back and is under the care of emergency doctors at the Faculty Hospital in Ostrava. Her injuries are serious, but according to him, her life is not in immediate danger.
