Video: Chamber makes an effort to vote on spending cuts – 12/18/2024 – Brasília Hoje

The plenary session was packed this Wednesday (18) in a concentrated effort to approve the Luiz Inácio da Silva government’s cost containment package (). Deputies completed voting on the complementary bill and the text now goes to the Senate.

The president of the house, , presided over the work, which began around 7pm after meetings with leaders of the House. Parliamentarians continued to focus on the matter until around 11:30 pm.

Congress is racing against time in an attempt to complete the consideration of these measures this week.

Agglutinative amendment presented at the last minute by the government leader in the Chamber, deputy José Guimarães (PT-CE), provides that the blocking of up to 15% of amendments will only apply to non-taxable funds.

In practice, this means that the freezing of expenses in the event of an increase in other mandatory expenses cannot affect individual and bench amendments, the payment for which is determined in the Federal Constitution.
