Russian rockets hit Kyiv: One victim is reported, two people were hospitalized with injuries

The Russian army made a bold move on Friday rocket attack on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, as a result of which one person lost his life and two others were hospitalized with injurieslocal authorities said. Several loud explosions were heard in Kyiv and smoke could be seen rising over parts of the city, according to AFP. Earlier on the Telegram platform, the Ukrainian Air Force warned of a ballistic missile attack from the north and said that the missile attack was repelled by air defenses. “According to preliminary reports, one person was killed,” Serhiy Popko, head of the local military administration, said on Telegram, adding that Russian forces used Ch-47M2 Kinzhal and Iskander-M ballistic missiles in the attack.

At approximately 05:30 local time, the Ukrainian military reported that a Russian fighter jet, capable of carrying the Kinzhal ICBM, had taken off from Russia. Subsequently, an air alert was declared throughout Ukraine. In the report, the BBC cited Ukrainian military and monitoring channels, which also claimed that the Russian military had fired ballistic missiles. However, the exact information about their number was not yet known.

Kyiv Mayor Vitaly Klitschko said that debris from the Russian rocket fell in four districts of the metropolis. In one, cars and buildings caught fire and at least two people were injured. At his annual press conference on Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin challenged the West to a showdown, suggesting that it choose a target in the Ukrainian capital of Kiev, assemble defense systems and try to repel a Russian attack with the Russian Oreshnik hypersonic missile, according to TASS.

Ukrainian authorities also reported rocket attacks in the port city of Kherson, where one person lost his life and six others were injured. In Kryvyi Rih in the Dnepropetrovsk region, a two-story house was destroyed as a result of an attack by Russian forces on Friday night. A girl (15) and four adults there according to the BBC suffered moderate injuries.
