Lula sanctions special credit of R$273 million for the Judiciary

The largest amount will be allocated to the National Justice Council; will receive R$224.4 million to purchase a headquarters building

The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) sanctioned the which authorizes the opening of special credit in the Union Fiscal Budget in the amount of R$273.7 million. The resources will be allocated to the acquisition of properties and infrastructure works for various bodies of the Judiciary, including the Federal Court, the Electoral Court, the Labor Court and the (National Council of Justice).

The law, published in DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) on Friday (Dec 20, 2024), originated in and seeks to facilitate the acquisition of properties and the construction of new headquarters for different bodies of the Judiciary, in addition to investments in infrastructure to ensure the continuity and improvement of judicial activities in Brazil .

The largest amount of the funding will be allocated to the National Justice Council, which will receive R$224.4 million. The objective of this credit is the acquisition of a headquarters building, with the estimate that the new space, located in Brasília, will house the necessary infrastructure for the development of the body’s constitutional activities.

For the Federal Court, the approved credit determines the allocation of R$35.8 million. This amount will be used to acquire properties in different cities, with the aim of improving the physical structure of the Federal Court in various regions of the country. The locations covered are Teresópolis (RJ), Itapeva (SP), Osasco (SP) and Mafra (SC). Furthermore, part of the resources will be used to purchase a property for parking in São João da Boa Vista (SP).

The Labor Court will also benefit from the credit, with the release of R$12.6 million. Part of the amount will be used to acquire land in Passo Fundo (RS), where the new headquarters of the city’s Labor Forum will be built. Another part of the resources will be allocated to the construction of a new headquarters building for the Mirassol D’Oeste (MT) Labor Forum.

As for the Electoral Court, the credit of R$ 775 thousand will be allocated to a contractual amendment for the expansion of the headquarters building of the (Regional Electoral Court of Mato Grosso do Sul). This amendment aims to improve the space allocated to the plenary, including the construction of an environment for members and other authorities, as well as adjustments to bathrooms and other areas.

The resources needed for the special credit of R$273 million will come from the cancellation of budget allocations for other expenses, in accordance with the 2024 Budget Law.
