The number of victims of Cyclone Chido in Mozambique has risen again

Mozambique’s civil protection office said 110 people had died in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, while another 868 were injured across the country.

The number of victims of Cyclone Chido, which hit the coast of Mozambique, rose to 120. Another 35 people died on the island of Mayotte, which is an overseas territory of France. TASR informs about this according to the Tuesday report of the press agency DPA.

The cyclone in Mozambique affected a total of 688,000 people. More than 150,000 houses were destroyed or damaged, including dozens of hospitals, schools, public buildings and other infrastructure.

So far, at least 35 victims and 2,500 injured have been confirmed in Mayotte. But authorities suggest the death toll is actually in the hundreds or thousands. Ever since the storm hit the remote archipelago, rumors have swirled of possible mass graves in hard-to-reach areas still inaccessible to rescue teams.

French President Emmanuel Macron, during a visit to Mayotte last week on Thursday, promised the restoration of this overseas territory.
