During his Christmas message this Wednesday (25), Pope Francis called for social harmony in countries such as Haiti, Venezuela, Colombia and Nicaragua.
“May the Baby Jesus inspire political authorities and all people of good will on the American continent to find effective solutions as quickly as possible, in justice and truth, to promote social harmony, particularly in Haiti, Venezuela, Colombia and Nicaragua” , he pointed out.
“May they work, particularly during this Jubilee Year, to promote the common good and respect the dignity of each person, overcoming political divisions,” he added.
In his “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world) Christmas Day speech, he called for “the necessary boldness to open the door to negotiation”.
Situation in Gaza “extremely serious”
Pope Francis, who has recently become more critical of Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip, also renewed his call for a ceasefire in the war in the region and the release of the remaining Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
He called the situation in Gaza “extremely serious” and called for “the doors of dialogue and peace (to be) opened.”
