A fire in Amarillo, Texas, threatens the population of the region and has led to evacuation orders. By noon this Tuesday (19), local time, the flames had already consumed more than a thousand hectares.
Electricity supply was also cut in some regions as a precautionary measure.
The fire started at the Amarillo landfill, but winds spread the flames. Some houses were destroyed, and another 300 homes are threatened.
Fighting the fire continues, but smoke and fire still pose a risk to the population and properties. According to authorities, the flames are 30% contained.
According to information from KFDA, an affiliate network of CNN, a private helicopter is helping to drop water. Heavy equipment is creating firebreaks.
