Federal judge Alcides Martins Ribeiro Filho was found dead on Tuesday afternoon on the outskirts of Vista Chinesa, in Tijuca National Park. The body was located by agents from the Whereabouts Discovery Department (DDPA) and the Fire Department. According to the Civil Police, there were no apparent signs of violence. The investigation was carried out by the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC), and the body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML). The circumstances of the death are still investigated.
He had been missing for over a month. The case, revealed by columnist Lauro Jardim, mobilized the top brass of the Federal Regional Court of the 2nd Region (TRF-2) and was closely monitored by the Rio Civil Police.
Behind the scenes at the agency, the case was treated with concern. The court’s Institutional Security Office (GSI) was holding weekly meetings with Civil Police investigators to monitor the progress of the investigations.
The magistrate had last been seen on April 14th. According to investigations, that day he withdrew R$1,000 and boarded a taxi headed to Vista Chinesa, the city’s traditional viewpoint located in Floresta da Tijuca, in the late afternoon. Since then, there has been no further news about his whereabouts.
Last Wednesday, the judge’s family held a mass in honor of him at the Nossa Senhora da Conceição Parish, in Tijuca, North Zone of the city. GLOBO was at the church and spoke with Alcides’ brother, retired accountant José Paulo Martins Ribeiro, 67, who said that the information about the magistrate’s last destination was passed on to the police by the taxi driver.
— He lives in Ipanema, but that day, he was on a walk in Tijuca, where he took a taxi towards Vista Chinesa. One day after we registered the case, the Civil Police identified the taxi and the taxi driver, who passed on information about my brother’s destination. This was very important — José reported at the time.
