Poinsettia impresses with its incredibly decorative dark green leaves and flower buds in various colors. For Christmas, we usually choose poinsettias with red flowers. But what can you do to keep the plant looking phenomenal all winter long, not just at Christmas? Be sure to prepare nutrition for her from two products that you definitely have in the fridge.

A poinsettia can please your eyes not only during Christmas. In order for it to bloom throughout the winter, you must apply the most important principles of caring for this plant. Among them is fertilization. Instead of buying fertilizers in gardening, prepare natural nutrition yourself. Its main ingredients are yeast and milk.

Poinsettia cultivation – key principles

The poinsettia needs the right conditions to bloom. These include location, substrate and air temperature. You must also ensure that it is properly watered and fertilized.

The poinsettia should therefore be placed in a bright and warm place, but not directly above the radiator. Therefore, it is better if it does not stand on the windowsill. Also avoid drafts.

As for the substrate, it should be fertile, humus with a pH of 5 to 6.5. The optimum air temperature for this plant is 16 to 22 degrees Celsius.

Poinsettia is sensitive to waterlogging, so it should not stand in water. This would lead to root rot and leaf drop. Therefore, water it only after the soil has completely dried, preferably every 2-3 days. You can minimize the risk of the plant getting waterlogged if the pot has large openings.

The plant will bloom all winter only if you supply it with valuable nutrients. You can use fertilizers from the garden store, but a better solution is to prepare natural nutrition yourself.

A recipe for the nutrition of a poinsettia from yeast and milk

To make natural poinsettia food, first dissolve a packet of yeast in 1 cup of warm water. Then pour this mixture into a bottle and add 300 ml of cow’s milk to it.

The bottle with natural nutrition must be closed and shaken several times. Water the poinsettia once every two weeks. Pour a small amount – this is enough to keep the plant looking great all winter.

Why is the poinsettia sprinkled with yeast and milk?

Yeast is rich in vitamin B and the minerals potassium and magnesium. These ingredients contribute to the healthy appearance of the poinsettia. They stimulate its growth and flowering.

On the other hand, milk contains calcium and nitrogen, which strengthen the root system. In addition, this mineral helps to maintain the intense green color of the leaves.

This natural food is not only suitable for poinsettias. It can also be used to water other potted plants, such as paddlefish and monsters.

Do you do this every day? Error. The poinsettia won’t even last until Christmas Day
