Baby is born at home in the Algarve on Christmas Day and father cuts the umbilical cord

The birth of a child is always a milestone for parents, but a birth on December 25th, Christmas Day, and at home, goes beyond all expectations that can be created. It was precisely on Christmas Day and in a house in Tunes, in the municipality of Silves, in the Algarve, that little Yara was born. The birth was scheduled for that same day, at the hospital, but the baby “decided” to be born early.

It highlights that the alert was given at 7:30 am on December 25th to provide assistance to a pregnant woman in labor, in the Tunis area. The Messines fire department and the Albufeira Emergency and Resuscitation Medical Vehicle were called. After giving birth, the mother and newborn were taken to Faro Hospital.

Diogo Silva and Justino Luís were the midwives on duty and provided assistance to the baby and mother. “Upon arrival at the location we have the father saying that the child is being born”, says Diogo Silva to Correio da Manhã. When firefighters entered the house, the grandmother was already holding the child. “We gave the father the opportunity to cut the umbilical cord, it was something he wanted”, says firefighter Diogo Silva to the same source.

It is worth mentioning that giving birth at home was not an option for the parents, as little Yara’s birth was scheduled for the same day, in the hospital. However, the baby was born a few hours early.

The mother and the newborn baby were then transported to Faro Hospital accompanied by the INEM medical vehicle and were admitted for observation. They are both in good health.
