Despite the suspense surrounding Gabigol’s future, the announcement of his signing by Cruzeiro in the first minutes of 2025 did not take anyone by surprise. The striker who was at Flamengo will join the celestial team in the new season aware of his responsibilities and experiencing what he considers to be his “best moment on and off the field”.

“I’m 28 years old, I’ve been through a lot and learned a lot. I believe this is my best moment on the field and off. So, nothing more than a new project so I can achieve some goals that I still have, together with a club that He also wants to get back on his feet, he’s been getting back on his feet for some time now,” Gabigol told Globo.

The striker had proposals from other Brazilian football clubs from the moment Flamengo’s lack of interest in a long-term contract renewal became public. Since then, Gabigol’s name has been linked to Palmeiras and Santos, especially.

At Cruzeiro, Gabigol’s ambition will be high, but it won’t match what he experienced at Flamengo. In 2025, the celestial team will compete in the Campeonato Mineiro, the Copa do Brasil, the Brasileirão and the Copa Sudamericana. The dream of returning to the Libertadores fell by the wayside due to the terrible sequence in the final stretch of the 2024 national tournament.

“I have received enormous affection from all the supporters and fans. I’m looking forward to meeting them, being with the fans, getting to Belo Horizonte, which is my next home. It’s a city that I’ve always really liked, I’ve always been lucky when I played there. So I hope it continues like this”, said Gabigol, who should be introduced to Cruzeiro fans next Saturday, at Mineirão.
