Don’t throw away the leftovers from Christmas gluttony: Make delicious fish meatballs and French toast

When the Christmas holidays are over, the fridge is often full of uneaten goodies. Many, in the first burst of New Year’s enthusiasm, start cleaning and immediately throw out what they no longer feel like eating. But that’s a shame. Leftovers from a Christmas feast can be turned into scrumptious meals that save you money

After the Christmas feast, what no longer fit on the festive table is often left in the fridge. Most often, it is the fish that belongs to the traditional Christmas Eve dinner and the Christmas tree that decorated the breakfast table. These scraps often end up in the trash because people don’t know what to do with them. At the same time, these dishes offer a lot of possibilities to prepare something new and tasty from them. All it takes is a little inspiration and the fridge will turn into a treasure trove of new recipes instead of waste.

One of the easiest and most popular ways to use carp is to make fish meatballs. Just remove the bones and mix it with finely chopped onion, an egg, some breadcrumbs and spices to taste, such as garlic, pepper or marjoram. Shape this mixture into smaller meatballs, which you fry in a pan until golden. You can serve them with fresh bread or a light potato salad, and you have a ready meal that will win over everyone.

Are you left with mountains of Christmas and sweet pastries that are starting to harden? Make simple French toast. Prepare a mixture of milk, eggs and a little sugar, possibly cinnamon or vanilla. Dip the Christmas tree slices in this mixture and fry them in a pan. The result is a soft, fragrant and sweet dish that goes well with afternoon coffee. If you want to improve the taste even more, add a little honey or marmalade to the toasts.

If you have leftover cheese or charcuterie, turn it into a rich savory pie. It is enough to prepare a dough, for example from puff pastry, on which you spread pieces of cheese, ham or salami evenly. Cover everything with a mixture of eggs and cream, add a pinch of salt and spices and bake in the oven. The result will be a dish that will serve perfectly as a main course or as a quick snack for guests.

Christmas leftovers don’t have to end up in the bin. Transforming them into new dishes is easy and you save not only money, but also time spent thinking about what to cook.
