A man died after being electrocuted in an external power supply area at the University Hospital of the State University of Ponta Grossa (HU-UEPG), in western Paraná, on Tuesday night (31). According to the Civil Police, he had invaded the sector with the intention of stealing high voltage wires and suffered an electrocution.

To the portal, the police officers who responded to the incident said that the situation caused a temporary drop in the hospital’s power supply. The man’s body, still unidentified, was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Ponta Grossa.

The State University of Ponta Grossa released a note about what happened. According to the institution, the attacker accessed the hospital’s engine room and suffered an electric shock when trying to steal high voltage cables. See the note in full below:
“The State University of Ponta Grossa, through its University Hospital, informs that, on the night of December 31, 2024, it recorded an invasion in the HU-UEPG engine room, in Uvaranas. In an attempt to steal high voltage cables, the attacker was electrocuted and died on the spot. The competent authorities were contacted immediately. During the temporary power outage, the Hospital’s services were maintained with standard safety measures. All services were reestablished, without impacting the quality of patient care.”
