SIC commentator Pedro Fatela says that Bruno Lage is making the same mistake as his predecessor Roger Schmidt, “who stuck to the statutes in the Benfica dressing room”.
O losing for the second time in a row, against Sporting de Braga, 2-1, in a game in the 17th round.
After the setback against rival Sporting, the ‘reds’ recorded a negative result again and could be five points away from FC Porto.
SIC commentator Pedro Fatela speaks of an “apathetic” Benfica like the one that performed in Alvalade, also pointing out that this was the ‘eagles’ worst performance since Bruno Lage returned to Luz.
“It’s often said that there are good performances and weak performances, and there’s this one from Benfica, which is one thing… I think it was the worst performance since Bruno Lage returned and it’s particularly worrying. Just like it was in Sporting’s first half , Benfica was an apathetic team”, he said.
Fatela went further and mentions that Lage is making the same mistake as his predecessor Roger Schmidt, “who stuck too closely to the statutes in the locker room.”
“It seems to me that Bruno Lage, without realizing it, is making the same mistake that Roger Schmidt made in the middle of his first season. He stuck to the statutes a lot, it is much more comfortable to be on the side of the locker room leaders and always have these players playing , whether they perform or not. “I have no doubt that the people in charge in the Benfica dressing room are Otamendi and Di María”, he concluded.
SIC commentator David Borges says that Bruno Lage was a fallback situation to replace Roger Schmidt, recalling the Setubalense coach’s past failure in the Wolverhampton and Botafogo.
Jorge Baptista states that Benfica fans are not satisfied with the team’s latest results, with bad performances that are now combined with bad results.
Benfica, which was already coming off a setback with rival Sporting, conceded the first points at the Estádio da Luz, remaining in third place, with 38 points, three behind the ‘lions’ and two behind FC Porto, second placed, which has one game in hand, while Sporting de Braga provisionally moved up to fourth place, with 31, ahead of Santa Clara (30), who face Farense on Sunday.
