After the Neos left the negotiations for Austria’s first three-party coalition on Friday, the failure of the cooperation between the ÖVP and SPÖ became apparent over the course of Saturday. In the evening, the ÖVP finally left the negotiations. Chancellor Karl Nehammer announced his resignation via Twitter. “We have negotiated for a long time and honestly. There is no agreement possible with the SPÖ on essential points. The People’s Party stands by its promises: We will not agree to measures that are anti-performance and anti-business or new taxes. We are therefore ending the negotiations,” the Chancellor said .
