Next Wednesday (8), they will be two years old. In public messaging groups supporting the former president, users call for the population to celebrate the date and for “Patriot’s Day” to be created.

In the monitoring carried out by Palver, there is an intense exchange of messages regarding January 8th. It is possible to observe a dispute of narratives between right and left groups. Some defend amnesty for those arrested and convicted of the attacks, while others call for the law to be strict with everyone involved.

There is, among right-wing groups, an attempt to consolidate the facts as a major conspiracy by the Lula government to imprison innocent people, infiltrating people to carry out the attacks and, in collusion with the , condemn and arrest the patriots.

In their arguments, users claim that the arrests were made arbitrarily and that those truly responsible for the vandalism were left-wing infiltrators. To support this version, there are videos and recordings indicating that they knew in advance that the attacks would happen and yet they did nothing.

This version is repeated intensely in right-wing groups, not only over the last few weeks, but since the attacks took place. Users still accuse the president and the then Minister of Justice of having knowledge of the attacks and of having prepared the federal intervention decree in the DF before January 8th. Furthermore, users classify what happened on January 8th as a major ambush, in which the .

Last week, one of the videos that was most shared regarding the topic features the STF minister classifying the acts as an attempted coup d’état and condemning celebrations and favorable demonstrations, due to the coup-like and, therefore, criminal nature of the acts. The video’s highlighted text is: “Xandão threatens the Brazilian people”.

The video was mostly shared in right-wing groups and was always accompanied by a lot of criticism of Moraes. Some users used reaction videos to denounce what they called abuses by the STF minister, arguing that the demonstration is part of democracy and that curbing such celebrations is an undemocratic attitude.

Furthermore, the video was used to inflame right-wing groups in an attempt to call for a large demonstration on social media for next Wednesday. The messages ask people to use their networks to share materials in support of January 8th and, mainly, with the call for the creation of “Patriot’s Day”.

The motivational text that accompanies the images and videos has a call to action for “true patriots” to help share the materials with the aim of making this day recognized internationally. In some of the groups, there are explicit requests not to link the image of former president Bolsonaro and the former first lady with material from January 8th.

In left-wing groups there is also a lot of movement around the topic. In most messages, users condemn the acts and highlight . Furthermore, they ask that there be no amnesty for those involved in the organization and attacks on January 8, 2023, whom they call criminals.
