A press conference was held by its Authorities in which they informed about the progress of the deadly fires. The report so far states that there are
The authorities are mainly concerned with two fronts. The Palisades Fire between Santa Monica and Malibu on the west side of the city and the Eaton Fire on the east near Pasadena. These are also the most destructive fires in the history of Los Angeles, burning so far almost 28,000 acres (in the specific areas, 65,000 in total) and turning entire neighborhoods into ashes.
Nearly 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate their homes, officials said. “The death toll is likely to rise,” Los Angeles Sheriff Robert Luna said at a news conference Thursday.
The growth of the Eaton fire has been significantly halted, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marone said. Although still severe, seen earlier in the week, allowing critical air support for crews on the ground.
At the same time, those citizens who remain in Los Angeles are at risk from the cloud, while recommendations have been made not to consume the water. In addition, thousands of homes have been left without power as the relevant agency makes efforts to restore electricity.
The fire is also visible from space
Firefighters, aided by helicopters dropping retardant and water, managed to win the night in the battle against the Sunset fire, which had forced the evacuation of Hollywood and the Hollywood Hills – including famous entertainment venues such as the TCL Chinese Theater and the Hollywood Walk of Fame- late Wednesday night.
The fire was receding, shrinking to about 43 acres, and firefighters were making progress, Crowley said. No buildings were lost in the area, a city fire department spokesman said, and the evacuation order was lifted.
It was one of at least five separate wildfires burning in Los Angeles County Thursday morning as high winds fanned the flames in dry land that hasn’t seen rain in months. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass described the situation as a “perfect storm” of dangerous conditions.
The two largest fires – the Palisades and Eaton fires – formed a blob around the city so huge it was visible from space. Homes of movie stars and celebrities were among those destroyed by the flames, which tore through some of the world’s most luxurious properties.
The National Weather Service has extended red flag warnings – issued when fire danger is high due to low humidity, strong winds and hot temperatures – for Los Angeles and Ventura counties until 6 p.m. Friday.
Aid from other states
The scale and spread of the fires exceeded the capabilities of the exhausted fire brigades. Firefighters from six other US states were rushed to California, while an additional 250 fire companies with 1,000 personnel were moved from Northern California to Southern California, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marone said at a news conference.
The fires hit at a particularly vulnerable time for Southern California, which hasn’t seen significant rainfall in months. Then came the strong Santa Ana winds, which brought dry desert air from the east into the coastal mountains, fanning the fires as they blew over hilltops and down canyons.
