In winter, there is nothing better than the soothing sound of crackling wood in the fireplace. But if the radiator makes noises, it’s not so pleasant. How to spin with hissing, bubbling, or even blows?
The inaudible persistent sounds that a radiator can make are not something we want to listen to in the living room, or even in the bedroom, during the long, quiet winter evenings. At the same time, it is usually not necessary to call a repairman right away, as we can solve many problems ourselves. It will probably be a relative minor thing, such as an aerated system.

It won’t work without water
In order for the central heating to work well, there must always be enough (i.e. full) water in its pipes, radiators and other parts. As soon as part of it is released, for example due to a leak in some part of it, air bubbles will appear inside. They are then the most common reason for the mentioned problems.
Bleed the radiator, you can do it
How to properly vent the radiator? It’s nothing complicated. Experts are debating whether it is better to turn off the boiler or leave it running. Since they still did not clearly agree, we can consider that this step is not so important that we need to address it.
So let’s each choose the option that suits us. The vent valve in the upper part of the radiator is used for the procedure itself. You can easily find it on the opposite side of the heating regulator.
Screwdriver and mug
Expect that as soon as you turn the valve, for which you will need a screwdriver or a special key (but women can certainly handle a kitchen knife without shame), you will hear the hiss of escaping air for a while, and then a jet of air will come. At this point it is done and you can quickly close the valve again. However, you must not forget to take a container with you in which to catch the first drops of water – but be careful, it can be very warm.
Repeat the process until you call for help
According to specialists, it is advisable to repeat this process after several tens of minutes, but this time let about half a cup of water drain. If it was really just an aerated system, the problem is solved. However, if the sounds are still audible after this procedure, it may also be due to improper fixing of the pipes in the holders. Skilled do-it-yourselfers can deal with this problem as well, but if it is a more permanent issue that cannot be removed in such a simple way, it will always be better to ask for the advice of an expert who has more experience with such systems after all.
Prevention is most important
Even though it is now too late for “princely advice”, let’s remember that it is always necessary to check the heating in autumn, to test and check everything, or to invite a technician who really knows about it. In this way, we will prevent unnecessary unpleasant surprises at the most inopportune time, when we need to ensure a warm and comfortable home for the family, even in winter.
