Prosecutor Francisco Cuenca, one of those responsible for investigating the car accident involving Corinthians player Rodrigo Garro, stated that Nicolas Chiaraviglio’s toxicological examination indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine and marijuana in his system.

Furthermore, the victim, who died at the scene of the accident, was not wearing a helmet and his license had expired since September 2022.

“Some important information has reached us, such as that from the Scientific Agency which revealed that Chiaraviglio’s biological samples detected a high level of alcohol in his blood, 1.56 grams per liter, in addition to testing positive for cocaine and marijuana,” said the prosecutor. in an interview with the Argentine website “En Boca de Todos HD”.

Francisco Cuenca considered that in addition to the examinations carried out on the victim, there is still a lot of work for the experts to carry out to clarify the circumstances of the accident, especially the visibility conditions.

“What we have now is objective evidence that we must evaluate at the appropriate time. These are elements that contribute, but there is still a lot of work to be done,” said the prosecutor. Cuenca also said that witnesses present at the scene of the incident have been identified and that they will be called to testify.

Garro was formally indicted for the crime of “manslaughter by reckless, negligent or irregular driving of a motor vehicle”, as presented by the prosecution. The expected penalty is two to five years in prison and the loss of driving license for five to ten years. Garro already has his license suspended.

According to the attorney general of the province of La Pampa, Armando Agüero, the level of alcohol detected in Garro’s body shortly after the accident, of 0.54 g/l, is below the limit considered as an aggravating factor under Argentine law, of 1 g/l. Therefore, the player was released by the police a few hours after the incident.

The police are now studying images from security cameras to understand whether there was negligence on the part of the drivers and what the visibility conditions were at the time of the accident.

The player returned to Brazil at the beginning of the week and is now available to Corinthians, who promised to provide support not only for the athlete but also for the investigation by Argentine authorities, which contributed to the athlete receiving permission to travel to the country.
