Daphné Bürki was one of the important figures at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics last year. In an interview given to “Madame Figaro” this Friday, January 10, the host returns to the drama she experienced shortly before the event and the importance of her daughters in this complicated period.
“A very painful experience”: Daphné Bürki saved by the Olympics after the event, her 2 daughters played a big role
If the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games was masterfully orchestrated by director Thomas Jolly, there are many who have had a fundamental importance throughout this process. A team in charge of the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games as well as the Paralympic Games, unanimously praised by critics and among them we find. The 44-year-old French television and radio presenter and stylist has been named director of “styling and costumes” for the four ceremoniesbut that’s not all. During each event, she was responsible for commenting on the intentions of the creators to French viewers.
“We wanted to show diversity in all its forms. Represent the minorities and LGBT communities that we see everywhere in a metropolis. The public’s enthusiasm was extraordinary, but we suffered inevitable and very violent criticism on social networks”explains Daphné Bürki this Friday January 10 in the columns of Madame Figaro. Critics came from everywhere, like in his show on CNews. “I don’t know if it’s just me that this annoys, but I can’t take this dripping morality anymore… I can’t tell you anything else, I can’t take it anymore!”he said.
Daphné Bürki’s daughters accept her “eccentric schedules”
A complex period for Daphné Bürki, especially since a few months earlier, she experienced a real tragedy with the photographer David Hache, who died in April at only 42 years old. “Again, I clung to creation, which supported me during a very painful experience that I experienced shortly before the ceremony”she confides to our colleagues. And this enormous project that she took on and which allowed her to occupy her mind after the painful loss of her love would not have been possible without her two daughters, Hedda (18 years old) and Suzanne (11 years old).
With her two daughters, Daphné Bürki discussed the moment she received the proposal from Thomas Jolly and his teams. “Before accepting my mission for the Olympic Games, I consulted my two daughters and we made a contract together: they are proud to have a committed mother and they accepted my crazy hours”remembers the one who brilliantly fulfilled her role during the various ceremonies.
