Fico proposed joint negotiations on natural gas transit and mutual relations between the two countries.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy invited Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to visit Kyiv. He reacted to Fico’s open letter on Monday, in which the prime minister proposed joint negotiations on natural gas transit and mutual relations between the two countries.

“Okay, come to Kyiv on Friday,” Zelenskyy wrote in a short status on the X platform. Previously, in a video published on the social network in connection with the letter, Fico proposed to Zelenskyy joint negotiations on the territory of the Slovak Republic near the state border with Ukraine.

Fico expressed concern about the stoppage of gas transit through Ukraine

In an open letter, the Prime Minister reiterated that the decision to stop the transit of gas through Ukraine to Slovakia and other customers causes extensive damage to Ukraine, Slovakia and the European Union. “My position is not alone in Europe. Even if I don’t consider it completely decisive that the Slovak Republic loses around 500 million euros annually due to the stoppage of gas transit, the most decisive is the impact of your decision on the competitiveness of the EU, the organization in which you are applying for membership,” stressed Fico.

At the same time, he supports the existing peace plans for the war in Ukraine and suggests that peace negotiations at any level should also be held in Slovakia.
