South Korean authorities arrested President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday (15) over allegations of insurrection, with the leader saying he agreed to comply with investigations to avoid “bloodshed”, ending weeks of political impasse.
Yoon was seen arriving in a motorcycle motorcade at the offices of the anti-corruption agency leading the investigation on Wednesday morning (local time).
Authorities now have 48 hours to question Yoon, then must request a warrant to detain him for up to 20 days or release him.
the first by a sitting president, is the latest alarming development for one of Asia’s most vibrant democracies, even though the country has a history of prosecuting and imprisoning former leaders.
