The Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloniwill fly to Washington to attend the inauguration of the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, next Monday, as confirmed this Saturday by the Italian Government. Trump’s swearing-in on his return to the White House will not take place on the outside steps of the Capitol, as is tradition, but inside due to a cold wave expected that day.
The new trip to the United States, made official this Saturday by the Italian Government, occurs just two weeks after Meloni visited the Republican magnate at his Mar-a-Lago mansion in Florida on January 5. A meeting in which, among other things, both discussed the arrest of an Italian journalist in Tehran, who four days later was released by the Iranian authorities.
The politician assured that she was “ready” to work with the Trump Administration while her party, the far-right Brothers of Italy, assured that she will be a “key” partner in Europe for the new American president.
After his return from the United States, Meloni will undertake an official visit to the Persian Gulf: on January 26 and 27 he will travel to Saudi Arabia, the capital Riyadh and Jeddah, and then he will visit Bahrain.
On January 31 he will travel to Belgrade for a bilateral Italy-Serbia summit and on February 3 to the Belgian city of Donceel for an informal European Council.
