This is soon the epilogue of one of the most significant news stories of recent years. On July 8, 2023, Émile Soleil, a little blond boy aged two and a half, went missing in the commune of Vernet, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. A particularly worrying disappearance since no one really knows where he is and the search will last several months. to investigators before a hiker found bones belonging to the young boy in a forest path located below Haut-Vernet last March. Following the identification of the child, the gendarmerie carried out new searches which made it possible to find, in the following days, new bones as well as clothes belonging to him.
It remains for investigators to determine the causes, whether accidental or criminal, of the death of Émile Soleil, but from now on, his loved ones will be able to mourn the loss of the little boy. A family who made some of the latter, as we learned a few weeks ago. According to our colleagues at BFM DICI, they have planned “a ceremony in two stages” with a first phase which will be a mass open to the public, celebrated in the Sainte-Marie Madeleine basilica of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume. The second stage will consist of the burial of the child in the Haut-Vernet cemetery.
The strictest privacy requested by Émile’s family
Funerals that will take place February 8 next, a Saturday, as confirmed by the mayor of the commune of Vernet, François Balique, to BFMTV. A funeral which should take place around 3 p.m. and for which the boy’s relatives have only one request. “We have only one objective: that the family can gather in complete privacy and serenity”as Colonel Pierre-Yves Bardy, commander of the Alpes de Haute-Provence gendarmerie group, explains to our colleagues.
A ceremony in the strictest privacy according to the wishes of Émile Soleil’s family, who certainly wish to turn the page after this tragedy which affected them.
